Name brands don’t influence me to buy things. Flashy packages, tempting images, a cute cartoon face or a really cool name… those are things that grab my attention. This isn’t the best logic, but it’s the way I am. You can imagine my expression when I discovered Vertigo. The name alone makes me imagine colorful Cheshire cats with swirling eyes and giant grins!
Vertigo are new chocolate lollipops from Topps. They are already on the shelves at various locations (I first spotted them at Wal-Mart for about half a dollar each). They are a fusion of two great candies: one side (about 3/4 of it) is a perfectly rich chocolate and the other side is a swirled hard candy. They come on a sturdy brown plastic stick that matches the color of the chocolate so well that I thought the stick was edible, too. (They aren’t.)
Vertigo comes in three flavors:
Chocolate/Cookies & Cream: First sensation in mouth: Mmmm… Creamy, delicious flavor. Very smooth texture. It’s hard to resist biting into the chocolate side! It’s a creamy chocolate that melts on your tongue nicely (if you lick at it). The candy side is truly delicious. Once I finally nibbled/licked/bit off the chocolate side, the hard candy side is left. Now that I’ve disassembled the shape, the flat top edge presses against the roof of my mouth. It rests better beside my cheek.
Chocolate/Caramel: Just what you’d expect in a caramel flavor, only tangier. The flavor isn’t quite as good as the Cookies & Cream flavor, but still good. The pops last a long while if you don’t bite them.
Chocolate/Strawberry: I purposely saved this one for last. I knew this would be the best! It tastes like it was made with real strawberries! It’s amazingly good. This would be awesome after a nice dinner.
I definitely recommend these to everyone!!!
Editor’s note: I tried these too and I agree – they are really good. The chocolate is much better than I expected and provides a nice contrast to the hard candy. I can’t imagine anyone not liking these.
