I have to start by saying that I love the Limited Edition candies that are currently being produced in the US. For one thing, it’s always interesting to try a new variation on an old favorite. It’s a win-win situation from my point of view. Either you find a new favorite, or you gain a newfound appreciation for the original. That’s why I was excited to see a Reese’s Inside Out in the bowl of leftover Halloween candy that one of my coworkers (generously) brought to work on Nov. 1st.
Reese’s likes being thorough it seems. They even took the extra steps to “inside out†the colors of the packaging. Yellow is the dominant color and the orange reserved for the detailing. The package describes the Inside Out Cup as “peanut butter outsideâ€, and I’d assume with chocolate interior. Sounds good to me!
Upon opening the package, I first noticed that the smell isn’t exactly like a normal Reese’s. It’s much…fainter, almost non-existent. I also noticed as I unwrapped the cup from it’s paper wrapper that the texture of the cup is much more greasy and slippery. The peanut butter exterior is beige-ish and very matte. I frankly was expecting it to be a little darker in color like real peanut butter.
How does it taste? In my first bite I didn’t really taste anything. The peanut butter flavor was hardly noticeable and the dominant trait was the incredibly greasy texture of the coating. Must be all those trans fats. The chocolate innards were crumbly like the original Reese’s cup’s interior, but the taste was bland at best. I do admit that the taste improved as I ate more of it. I began to notice the peanut butter flavor more and how the chocolate interior didn’t really mix with it at all.
Overall, I think this attempt at a new version of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup is a failure. The “inside out†aspect doesn’t preserve or highlight the great flavors that makes the original such a classic and delicious candy.
I loved the inside out cups. Of course anything with that much awesome peanut butter, I would enjoy. I wished they would bring them back.
October 19th, 2007 at 2:38 pmI too LOVED the Inside Out Reeses cups! I am a long time and true lover of Reeses. In approx. 1976 when I was nine years old I found a ten dollar bill in a mud puddle. I brought it straight to my mother who in turn let me have the money. TEN DOLLARS in 1976 was a heck of a lot of money for a nine year old kid. The FIRST thing I did was race straight down to the corner drug store and buy 5 whole Reeses Peanut Butter Cup candy bars, my very FAVORITE treat. With my remaining money (I cant remember how much I had left) I bought a gigantic bag of assorted Jolly Ranchers! (mostly green apple and cherry, again my favorites) I had ten whole peanut butter cups just for me. I proceeded to unwrap and eat every single cup of delectable chocolate mingled with heavenly peanut butter. I finished every last bit. I also got extremely nauseated and swore I could never eat another Reeses peanut butter cup. I lied. Surprisingly that experience did not turn my stomach to that which comes from Heaven. I still love them today and consider myself a professer of the Reese cup!
