I found these babies at the local Wal-Mart the other day and I think I actually shouted when I saw them! I absolutely love malted milk balls – that sound of them rolling around in the carton probably makes me salivate like Pavlov’s dog. I’m not usually crazy about strawberry flavors, but I was hoping for good things from these since I love Whoppers so much.
When I got home with them, I did what any good Candy Addict does (after eating a few) – I looked them up online to see when they had come out and figure out how I missed their arrival. It turns out there is very little information about these online and they are even conspicuously absent from the Hershey Whoppers webpage. I’m not sure if they just haven’t hit all the stores yet or if they are being tested in a limited market. You can find them on ebay though if you are willing to pay a premium (I paid less than $2 for a carton).
The first thing you’ll notice about these is that they are a dull pink. I was expecting a much brighter pink color, but they are very muted – almost white with just a tinge of pink. The outer coating’s taste reminds me very much of those yogurt covered raisins and nuts I’ve had before. Not great, but not bad. They are also a bit too sweet for my tastes and remind me also of white chocolate, which I generally dislike. The center is the same as a regular chocolate Whopper.
If you like Whoppers and really like strawberry, these may be right up your alley. Note that these are not labeled as “Limited Edition” (though I think that term is being phased out in the candy world), but I suspect that if they don’t sell well, they won’t be around long. These weren’t nearly as good as the original Whoppers and I definitely won’t be buying them again. Give me a carton of plain Whoppers any (every?) day of the week.
I came across Strawberry Whoppers by accident too and thought they’d be great. I thought the coating was waxy and rather flavorless. The coating actually took away from the malted goodness. I won’t be buying them again either. The original chocolate is far superior.
November 6th, 2006 at 12:14 amI completely disagree with the above statements. I ran across them as well and I think they are very wonderful. I like them a lot. If you cannot have candy without chocolate in it, like the people above, then you may not like them. I for one can though and I thought they were super enjoyable. Candy does not have to have chocolate in it to be good. These are very good and I am going to head out tonight and probably get some more. Remember, don\’t let chocolate lovers give you the wrong idea, they are very tasty!!! Everything does not have to contain chocolate to be delicious.
RESPONSE: You are welcome to disagree. A review is just an opinion – there is no right or wrong. And i neevr said candy has to be chocolate to be good – there are plenty of non-chocolate candy that I love :)

December 4th, 2006 at 10:42 amI found them at a local supermarket today and was very excited as I have been putting little notes on boxes of whoppers with a little poem about them being ‘reindeer poop’… which I’m sure you have heard about… so now I’m trying to come up with a cute little poem about them being Rudolph’s pink poop. I know, sound corny but if anyone has any ideas on a poem, I’m open. The poem I have on the brown whoppers goes like this:
December 24th, 2006 at 2:37 amFor all the souls who hate the noise of Christmas cheer and lights and toys, For Mr. Scrooge and Mrs. too, here’s a little gift for you… A lump of coal won’t be enough to make up for the shine and fluff, So, here’s a scoop of reindeer poop to offset all that Christmas goop!!!
Is there anywhere I could buy the chocolate and strawberry whoppers in bulk? We need them for a wedding.

April 30th, 2007 at 8:47 pmI’m not a candy addict so much as a hypoglycemic with a sweet tooth (LOL). I tried these and loved them (yeah they were sweet, but) I loved the flavoring.. and the malt with it made me think of strawberry malts jut like there’s such a thing as chocolate malts (Makes me wonder why they called them “Milkshakes” and not “Malts”). I would hope that maybe Whoppers might do a vanilla (milkshake) malt. Which is a good and bad thing to hope for, I doubt they would actually make a VANILLA flavored one and instead do a white chocolate, which would not even be vanilla flavored.
September 27th, 2007 at 7:43 pmWell, I’m one that really liked these when I found and tried them two days ago. I’d recently tried the brand new Peanut Butter Whoppers and wasn’t very impressed as the flavor was very mild and I like my peanut butter strong in my candy! I loved the straweberry ones, though, and will buy them again. They came in small, 3.5 oz. cartons, which is good since I can, and will, eat a whole LARGE carton quickly, though thankfully not all in one sitting!
I am a BIG regular Whoppers fan and admit that I prefer them over the flavored ones out, but I’d love to try the strawberry with the original chocolate at the same time! And as far as the “milkshake” in the advertising, they reminded me exactly of the taste of a strawberry malted milkshake, so I thought that word was right on!
Being a fan of authoring amusing parodies and poems, I think the poem written by Manza is great!
January 28th, 2008 at 2:46 amI saw both the strawberry flavor and the new Reese’s peanut butter flavor at Walmart recently. Since I really like peanut butter candies, I opted for the Reese’s ones over the strawberry ones. Unfortunately, like Julie commented above, they weren’t that great. In fact, after trying one, I debated on just throwing them away. However, I decided to try a couple more just to be sure they weren’t an acquired taste. After three or four of them, they weren’t quite as bad as I originally thought, but I still didn’t really like them. There was only a slight peanut butter flavor to them and what little flavor there was just didn’t mesh well with the malt balls. Overall, they were disappointing to say the least. I hope we’ll see a review of the Reese’s Whoppers on the site soon.
February 13th, 2008 at 3:35 amOh my….I have been searching for these for almost 2 years!! NOT only do they come in Strawberry, but they also have a vanilla flavor and and malt shoppe chocolate!! My daughter found them at her local Wal-Greens in Chicago, IL…and I ate the whole box in one day!!
March 5th, 2008 at 11:04 amI was very disappointed w/the Hershy “whopper” page…b/c they only mention the Robin egg, and regular ones!
I will be buying the strawberry ones and continue my search for the others!
Thank you…..
I got a stale box or something. Freaking gross. The middle was chewy… like a dog wizzed on the box. I love whoppers and enjoy the crunchy middle. My strawberry box was bought from kmart and there was no expiration or date on them at all. I wrote to Hersheys now we’ll see what they say about “stale” whoppers.
June 21st, 2008 at 4:29 pmI came across these @ Wal-Mart & couldn’t believe it! Since I generally dislike chocolate (although the chocolate on whoppers has never been a problem) I was really excited to try them. I think they taste great! I do like strawberry, & I do love the malt center; this may not have been good to you, but they taste great to me!! I didn’t see them for a long time, as I was out of town when I came across them, but I’m happy to report I have since seen them stocked @ the Target in my area.
July 20th, 2008 at 7:54 pmI simply love these. You have to eat around a half dozen for the flavor to sink it, but it’s wonderful.
August 25th, 2008 at 9:40 pmI loves them!
September 24th, 2008 at 11:53 pmthey taste like heavens.
I am looking forward to munching on these soon. I have not seen any of them out around where I am. But I will certainly keep an eye out for them. By the way, I do not like candy this much at all. Not enough to write about it anyways (except for this one comment).
Manza, this is just my opinion so please don’t be offended but I thought the poem was disgusting. Sorry bro.
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:00 pmI also stumbled across these in Wal-Mart a few years back and was initially excited to try them, I love the OG Whoppers :). However, I was dissapointed and kept trying more with a few of them being soggy in the middle(yuck). I haven’t tried them since, I wasn’t impressed & thought they were effing nasty. Perhaps I got a bad batch of something that isn’t good anyway lol, but I’ll stick to what I know.
