Our Massive Candy Giveaway to celebrate the site’s first birthday was a huge success! Thanks go out to all the candy companies that donated candy to use as prizes and thanks to everyone that entered!
As promised, here are the winners:
- 1st prize – the Scavenger Hunt winner: Angela Ramirez from Oregon
- 2nd prize – the link contest winner: Lisa Paik of California
- 3rd prize – the random drawing winner: Mihaela Day of Mississippi
- Consolation prize – first correct scavenger hunt entry: Mike Shaw of Virginia
- Consolation prize – random drawing from all entries: Rebecca McCoy of Maryland
- Consolation mini gumball machine – random drawing from all entries: Stella Singleton of Pennsylvania
Your prizes should ship this week! For those that were wondering, the answer to the Scavenger Hunt was KJTRADQOPLFDXZAUGB. I was amazed at how many people made it through the entire hunt but submitted the wrong answer. Those wrong answers were entered into the random drawings but were not eligible for the 1st prize.
Things I learned from this giveaway:
- It took 4 days for me to start receiving SPAM addressed to the giveaway email addresses.
- People have a hard time keeping track of random letters in a scavenger hunt.
- Not everyone knows how to make a link – especially LiveJournal and MySpace users.
- There are websites devoted to giveaways that will post your entry email addresses.
- People don’t read and follow instructions fully.
- People are very appreciative of the chance to win free candy and prizes.
- Over $1200 worth of candy and prizes takes up a lot of space.
I have a feeling I can add one more thing to this list: “Shipping over $1200 worth of candy and prizes costs a small fortune.” That’s ok though – you readers are worth it. It was fun doing the giveaway – hopefully next year will be even bigger! I’d like to start doing smaller giveaways on a regular basis so stay tuned for more free candy and prizes!
Sigh… Oh well, I tried.
Doesn’t make me love this site any less.
I’ll win something someday, I swear I will!
October 2nd, 2006 at 1:03 pmI can’t believe I lost! Damn you statistics!
October 2nd, 2006 at 3:11 pmSo since I never went back and bothered to solve it, what was the mixed up name of a candy bar in the scavenger hunt?
RESPONSE: There is a site called http://stearnestmeanings.com – you can type it in there and it will unscramble it for you :)
