Ah, Fruit Stripe Gum. How I loved you when I was younger. This has to be the gum I have the fondest memories of when I was a kid. There’s nothing like a flourescent stick of striped sugar-gum to get you going as a kid. Remember the zebra mascot? Remember his name? (Yipes!) Remember the slogan “Yipes, stripes! It’s Fruit Stripe gum!”
Back then, Fruit Stripe came in packs of 4 juicy flavors: wild cherry, lemon lime, and orange. Nowadays, they come in five flavors: cherry, lemon, orange, peach, and melon flavors. What’s that you say? “They still make Fruit Stripe Gum?” Why, yes, they do!
I actually had some Fruit Stripe recently when my wife bought some at a local drugstore to make a swimming pool cake. (She used the gum as the diving board – pictures/writeup coming soon). Remember how the Fruit Stripe flavor lasted just a few short minutes? Well, nothing’s changed – the flavor still lasts about 3 minutes … but oh what a fabulous 3 minutes! (the first ingredient listed on the package is sugar). Don’t forget – there’s a “Tattoo on every wrapper! – Collect all 10!”

Fruit Stripe was my favorite, too. Cant wait to see the cake!
August 14th, 2006 at 10:40 amFunny, when I saw the headline my first thought was, The flavor in that gum was shorter than any in history, and I wonder if they’ll mention it. (I think three minutes is overestimating it by a minute or two.) I should have known you’d nail that point.
RESPONSE: I actually timed it and it was about 3 minutes for me. Your mileage may vary :)

As a kid I chewed lots of bubble gums and sweet gums like Fruit Stripe, but as an adult I rarely chew gum. This really brought back memories. Although Fruit Stripes were a favorite, I have to say my all-time favorite chew remains Bazooka.
RESPONSE: Oh yeah – Bazooka was great too! :)

August 15th, 2006 at 12:09 amthanks for the mini time warp :) such fond memories! i think orange was my fav… if they in fact had ‘flavors’ other than SUGAR!!!!
August 17th, 2006 at 11:21 amI used to love this stuff as a kid. I don’t know why, it never lasted long. But then, I’ve always like fruity gums, which is why the fact that my favorite gum brands (Trident, Extra, Orbit) have branched off into various fruit flavors makes me happy.
November 16th, 2006 at 5:50 pmI hated this gum but it was my brother’s favorite. It did not taste good and the only good thing I thought about it as a kid was, “how’d they get those stripes on there?” The flavor was, as mentioned before, a flash in the pan. I wasn’t taken in by the hype of the stripe – I went where the flavor was and stuck with juicy fruit!
March 26th, 2007 at 5:28 pmOh my god lol I used to chew this kind of gum when I was young.
