Normally, one doesn’t associate chocolate with clear skin. I’d be willing to bet that the majority of people would say chocolate causes skin blemishes … despite that being a myth, the idea still sticks around. Perhaps these new bars from Borba will help to change people’s thoughts on chocolate and acne. Borba combines their chocolate with a unique formulation of vitamins which they claim removes toxins and helps regenerate skin.
Yes folks, they’ve actually made a chocolate bar that helps prevent blemishes. It’s called the Borba Clarifying Chocolate Bar, and it retails for $8.00 at Nordstroms.com for a 1.79 ounce bar. That works out to be about $71 a pound if my math is correct. Any price for beauty, right? Borba also makes Skin Clarifying Jellies and Gummies if those are more in line with your skin care needs.
It should be noted that their claims have not been evaluated by the Food & Drug Administration, so buyer beware.

The chocolate-complexion bit may be a myth–but if I don’t keep refined carbs out of my diet my acne resurges with a vengeance. Well into my 20s. I can have *chocolate*–but not the sugar that’s in most chocolate. Yes, I’ve heard, that’s a myth too. Tell my skin.

June 13th, 2006 at 9:58 amThe chocolate thing is not completely a myth. Chocolate may make you break-but the point is that chocolate won’t make EVERYONE break out. It varies from person to person. You break out from some chocolates. Maybe potato chips does it to someone else. No one particular food is linked directly to acne.
August 18th, 2006 at 10:05 amThe causes of acne are still not clear. It’s not proven that it’s stress, nor that it’s chocolate. Although, I must say that I find it quite interesting that this chocolate can cure acne related problems. Never heard of something like that before…
November 22nd, 2006 at 6:54 amI agree with Kevin. It’s a new one on me that chocolate can cure acne. It would go down a storm here in the UK. I think it could be a bit like some of the hangover cures. They work for some people but makes things worse for others.
