New Bazooka Gum

Bazooka Gum, the classic American gum we all know and love, is changing. Out goes the hard, square gum and in comes a twist-wrapped, rounder gum billed as softer and longer-lasting than the original and it will allow bigger bubbles. The 5 cent price tag will still be the same as it was in 1947 though. A comic will still come with the gum, but it’s on the wrapper instead of folded inside.

Debuting in stores across the country beginning this spring, the all-new Bazooka Bubble Gum line includes:

  • Bazooka Bubble Gum Twist Wrap Pieces: individually twist-wrapped Bazooka Bubble Gum in the new softer chew, longer-lasting flavor formulation, available in 300 count tubs, 120 piece boxes, 70 and 150 piece lay down bags, 3 lb. “Big Mix” bag and Sugarless Bazooka “Party Box.” Two all-new taste-sensations make their debut in ’06 as well: Cotton Candy & Watermelon!
  • Bazooka Bubble Gum Gumballs: featuring five kid-favored flavors including Original, Strawberry, Blue Raspberry, Watermelon and Grape
  • Bazooka Bubble Gum Filled Pops: choose from four fruit-flavored lollipops—Orange, Cherry, Grape or Green Apple—filled with a Bazooka Bubble Gum center
  • New Collectible Bazooka Premiums: now kids can “Get All-New Cool Stuff” when they redeem their collected comics. New items include fun spy gear like recording pens and binoculars, Bazooka t-shirts, watches, gumball machines and baseball caps.

The retooling of the brand coincides with the All Candy Expo which starts on June 6. Bazooka Joe himself is also morphing from a classic cartoon icon into a backwards-hat-wearing leader of a multi-ethnic gang. His new posse now includes characters such as DJ Chang (a DJ), Kevin Griffin (an awkward guy AKA Nerd), and Wolfgang Spreckels (a German exchange student). I guess the old Bazooka Joe and his gang just weren’t hip enough for today’s kids.

I’m looking forward to the new comics. I’ve heard they won’t be in color though. The gum may still be 5 cents as it was in 1947, but back then you got about 10 times more for the price.

You can barely see the comics. The gum tastes pretty good, though.

    Hey ,

We chew your sugarless gum we love your new packaging . What happened to the taste ??

The texture is not the same, and the flavor does
    not last as long….

All of us being in the 40 year range tells you
how long we have purchased your gum…

We miss the old gum. HELP

Hi ,Too whom it may concern
I have recently tried the new & improved taste in your bubble gum and I don’t like it as much. I will be looking to buy up all the old boxes I can find to make the taste I like last as long as possible. I would like to know if you will still be making the original flavor available?
I’m 64 yrs old and I was reintroduced to your gum about 6 yrs ago when BJ’s wholesalers was selling it by the tub and I bought it with all it’s different flavors ,my grandchildren also preferred it to Double Bubble,(which is ,disappointedly ,what they now sell) now I don’t think they will see much difference. I was forced to start buying Bazooka by the small box ,rather than the tub
You may wonder why I chew bubble gum, well let me explain: I have a special grandchild that can’t do very much, but one of the things she can do is watch me chew and blow bubbles ,which she
loves and I do too. It is an interaction that we have shared for almost all of her 12 yrsl . Now I’ve become pleasantly addicted to the original taste.
    I miss the original ,HELP

    Trish says:

I remember at camp, there were huge buckets of Bazooka and they were prizes for outdoor activities/games, and the fair along with other candy. We’d all have huge handfuls eventually. I always wanted the fruity flavors. I loved chewing the stuff even though they never lasted long enough. The comic were cool too.

New bazooka sucks. Bring back the classic! I, like Pauline, have been buying cases of the stuff. My kids cracked up, but agree the classic is better(I have to hide it and dole it out!). i would pay twice what the manufacturer wanted for a pack; bring it back!!!

    chris says:

Please bring the old Bazooka back. The new stuff is bogus and i’m having withdrawls from good old Joe!! I to, stocked up on cases of the old kind, but alas, it’s finally gone. Did i mention i’m 47 and been chewing for years.Didn’t Coca Cola
go through the same thing with “New” Coke? That didn’t work out for them either. So Bazooka, lets get with it and bring back the classic gum!!!!

    Arnold says:

    Hi Everyone,

I too love the old classic bazooka, and got hooked because I play softball a lot and started chewing. It is interesting that Topps just went a ahead and made such a drastic change without any concern for those of us who love the classic and not their new improved version. Thankfully there is one store in my area that has a small stock of the old classic gum, so needless to say, I am going there tomorrow to buy up whatever they have left.

    Anita says:

The ‘new improved’ Bazooka is awful! It doesn’t taste or smell anything like the REAL Bazooka. Why would you do that? The uniqueness of Bazooka was what made it the best in the world. Don’t change what’s not broken!

PS. PLEASE, PLEASE bring back the OLD Bazooka!

    Miserable in AZ

    Robert says:

Please bring the original. The new gum is terrible. I refuse to buy it.

Whoever had the final approval of the change, made a bad business decision.

I’m 56 years old. I know what I’m talking about.

  16. 16
    Anita says:

Oh, I forgot to mention, that after chewing the ‘new unimproved’ Bazooka, the color of the gum is a very light pink not bright pink like REAL Bazooka gum should be.
I’m still very upset about this. I think it’s…anti Americana and I hope your profit tumbles!

    bazooka gum factory says:

They used to offer a cardboard Bazooka gum factory in the late Sixties in Western Europe.
If you collected a certain amount of the gum wrappers, they’d send you one.
You could cut the parts out of a cardboard sheet and assemble this factory yourself.

I am still looking for this! Any offers or hints on this here forum please!
