Now this is creepy. Marina Malvada has created a mold out of a real human skull using food-grade silicon. She casts it with a special mix of chocolate she developed herself called “Bone Chocolate”. By adding a little milk chocolate added to Belgian white chocolate, she has perfected the tone and flavor so it looks just like a real human skull.
The skulls can be done in either the “Bone Chocolate”, or in White, Dark, or Semisweet chocolate (why would you get it in anything but “Bone Chocolate” though?). The price? Hold onto your hat – with shipping it’s $143 – although now that I think about it, she’s in Canada so maybe that’s Canadian dollars?
Unfortunately, there aren’t any really good pictures of the chocolate skulls on the website. If (and that’s a big if) I were going to pay $143 for a chocolate skull, I’d like to have some better pictures of it before I buy. Regardless, it’s still pretty darn cool.
I was moderately interested until I saw the price. Even in Canadian dollars that’s steep. I wonder how much I could make my own for.
RESPONSE: I agree – that price is rough.

RESPONSE: Man, how did I miss that obvious joke?!?!?! :)

March 10th, 2006 at 8:49 pmDoes anyone know anything about the method of mold making with “food grade silicon”? I’ve got a few ideas that I’m really anxious to try!
RESPONSE: Try this link. let us know if you come up with anything cool!

Anyone see a problem here? Silicon is a hard metal. It is what quartz, sand, glass, and electronic circuits are made of. Silicon is NOT involved in the process of creating this chocolate.
RESPONSE: the website said silicon, but I think it actually should be silicone.

[...Skulls made of chocolate? I want to get one, chop the top off, and drink milk from it at Halloween while I answer the door for trick or treaters. Found at Candy Addict by way of Boing Boing...]
