Today we have a first on Candy Addict – a reader-submitted article. Bitchkittie has written about a candy I have never heard of before – Jelly Belly Prehistoric Dinosaur Eggs. When she first mentioned them, I thought she meant the discontinued Wonka Dinosour Eggs, but these are a different beast altogether.
When I was a kid in the 80′s, a coffee & tea shop used to sell these Dinosaur Eggs from a big jar, sans packaging, for $.50 each. These are simple chocolate eggs with a medium candy shell outside and a “dinosaur†in the center. There was always the secret pleasure of biting into the candy shell and eating into the chocolate inside to find out what dinosaur you got. There was a T-Rex, Stegosaurs, Pterodactyls, and Triceratops.
These dinosaurs used to be gummy ones, but currently they are now the inferior “fruit snack†variety which always seems to be orange-flavored. Jelly Belly really should bring back the gummy centers. Additionally the eggs are much rarer now and are sold in individual packaging. I’ve seen them go for as much as $2.75 each which is way overpriced but I did find them at World Market for much more reasonable $1.49.

I have never heard of or seen these before. Funny thing is, there is NO mention of them anywhere on the Jelly Belly site, but she sent pictures along (see above and below this post) and you can find them for sale at Candy Warehouse. Anyone else remember these?

Without a doubt – this is one of the best tasting chocolate candies I have ever eaten. They are amoung my all time favorites! The milk chocolate is delicious, and the gummy inside always fresh, and has a good taste as well. You have to try these!!
March 31st, 2006 at 12:53 pmThey had these on sale at the Value Drugs (like a CVS) in New York for easter and since no one knew what they were so no one bought them, and of course the day after easter when they were on sale for 75% i got a box of 24 for $10 :) when i was younger they used to come in a different box and the gummys where different flavors and not just orange (which is my fav) they have lime, lemon, cherry and orange. and they came in a blister pack like and action figure and on the back was the diifferent dinosaurs you could get. you can get them in a box of 24 here

May 7th, 2007 at 3:28 pmI am glad to know that they only come in orange dinosaur because I was starting to think that I was cursed.
I liked the gummy dinos better than these. Sometime you lose an extremity.
I found mine at a drug store in suburban Seattle.
I remember those! I loved them as a kid. I can’t believe they messed with perfection and changed how they made them- so stupid.
