Wow – I had totally forgotten about this candy until I saw it in a Hallmark store yesterday. It’s a 2-oz. cloth sack of gold nugget shaped gum called Gold Rocks Nugget Bubble Gum. I don’t have a specific memory of this gum, but I know I had this when I was a kid. That sack looks soooooo familiar. Once the gum is gone, the sack comes in handy for storing marbles, little army men, or other special treasures.
Remember when a sack was enough to keep a kid busy – no batteries, LEDs, or noises required? I’m constantly amazed at the toys my daughter gets in her kid’s meals at fast food joints. I would have given my left arm (or $20) for some of those toys when I was a kid. Oops – back on topic….
So, anyone else remember Gold Rocks Gum from their childhood?

Wow, I remember that gum, too, but I hadn’t thought of it in years, and then as soon as I saw your post, the memory came rushing back.
RESPONSE: Cool – good to know I’m not the only one :)

If I recall, it’s the same flavor as JuicyFruit.
My brother used to like to buy it, I would keep the little bags. I have no idea what I did with them.
February 15th, 2006 at 1:02 amOMG! I remember this too. It’s amazing what old stuff still lurks in my neurons!
February 15th, 2006 at 4:37 pmI used the little cloth bags to keep my slot cars (remember those) and parts in them, they were great…

Wow — my wife and I were just talking about this stuff not long ago! I’m going to have to point her over towards your blog so she can see this, too.
As a kid, I used to buy this stuff at a corner candy store in our neighborhood. How nostalgic — thanks!
RESPONSE: You’re welcome!

I used to buy these most weeks after going to cub scouts. That was in the early 90s.
I’m sure there was a stage where these were Simpsons themed for some reason!

February 20th, 2010 at 6:52 pmI’m late to this party, but does anyone remember “Precious Stones”? They were in a little cloth drawstring bag, just like the “Gold Rush”, but were colored to look like pieces of turquoise, quartz, and other semi-precious stones? If anyone knows where I can find this product, I’d be deeply appreciative. I have been regaling my niece and nephew with stories of the candy available when their mother and I were kids, and I’d love to be able to share this with them. Thanks!!
