While in my local gas station mini mart today I noticed a new product (new to me at least, I don’t frequent gas station mini-marts much). They are called Slammers. They’re essentially flavored milk. The store had Orange and Creme Starburst and Milky Way, but they also come in 3 Musketeers and even…gasp….Moon Pie flavors. I didn’t try either one since I only had $2 cash on me and didn’t feel like buying a drink I might not like. I went with the old standby – Yoo-Hoo.
Back to Slammers….here’s the Starburst description from the website:
The Bravo! flavor team has captured the actual taste of Starburst® candy in a rich, creamy smoothie, loaded with the nutrition of milk. Now you can get all the great flavor of Starburst® in a delicious good for you fruit & cream smoothie! It’s like a big bottle full of your favorite fruit chew flavor!
Maybe the orange tastes like an Orange Julius – that would be awesome!
Milky Way:
Now you can drink one of life’s simple pleasures, new Slammers® Milky Way® chocolate milk. Frothy nougat and chocolate taste that’s been an American favorite for over 90 years, now in reduced fat milk that’s fortified with vitamins A and D. So it’s great tasting and good for you.
The Milky Way actually sounds pretty good. I’ll be over there tomorrow….I might have to pick one up (assuming I have some cash on me).
Moon Pie:
Moon Pie® Slammers® comes in the most popular Moon Pie® flavors, Banana and Chocolate, in delicious 2% milk.
Is it just me, or does Moon Pie milk sound NASTY? Despite living in the South, I’ve never actually had a Moon Pie (and never had the desire to).

Woah. I’m going to have to look for these. I think the Milky Way sounds the best by far, but I can imagine it would be super-sweet. I’d probably end up “watering it down” with regular milk. Let me know when you try them if this is the case.
I’m all about Starbursts, normally, with the expection of the Creme ones. Yicky! I’m interested to hear what you have to say about the Starburst drink. If it tastes like an Orange Julius, I’m sold.
I appreciate the public service you are providing– sampling candy and telling me if it is worth it or not!
RESPONSE: That’s what I’m here for. Like my tagline says “All candy, all the time.” :) I didn’t get to stop by today – I’ll try and stop by tomorrow and pick up both the Starburst and Milky Way and I’ll review them.

Take a look at Marvo’s review last summer of the Slammers. Of all the flavors, I think I’d be most interested in the 3Musketeers, in the hopes that it would be like a malted YooHoo. (Well, not interested enough to be the first to try it … you try it first.)
RESPONSE: I may go pick up one of each.

I love Moon Pies (the chocolate ones — banana is an abomination). If they get the chocolate and marshmallow flavor into the drink, that sounds great. Unfortunately, the thought of a Moon Pie-flavored drink brings images of graham cracker sludge at the bottom of the bottle.
February 1st, 2006 at 8:43 pmI stopped by today to pick up one of each flavor and, knowing that it was a small mini-mart and that the product was made of milk, I checked the expiration date. Every one of them was expired. Needless to say, I passed. I’ll see if I can find them at another mini-mart today.

Just wanted to let you know that I work in a convience store and have sampled the 3 muskateers. It taisted exactly like the candy bar. But its not very thirst quenching b/c its so thick. It is delicious however I would pick it as a snack more than a beverage b/c I had to rinse it down with some water. Also Hershey’s has a new drink out wich is even thicker, and exteremly rich. I couldn’t even finish all of that one b/c it was so rich.
February 4th, 2006 at 1:37 am[...] Looking for Slammers this weekend, I found Hershey’s Whoppers Milkshake milk instead and tried it. It really does taste like a malty milkshake only it’s not frozen, just cold. It is SUPER sweet – too sweet really. The 14 oz. bottle of thick milk serves two but who drinks half a bottle? Oh, and you don’t want to know how much fat and calories are in this thing. [...]
February 19th, 2006 at 11:19 pmhello-
found your website while searching for reviews of the Starburst Slammer. Just bought one for $2 from a school vending machine, when I found nothing else was available. Worst decision ever. It tastes like a bad Orange Julius. Weird texture and aftertaste. Blah.
RESPONSE: Sounds awful. Thanks!

Hi,
I’ve tried a bunch of the flavors. My wife and I really like the Milkyway and 3 Muskateers. If you like the candybars you’ll love these! The 3 Muskateers uses Splenda sweetener…My wife and I can’t tell but a friend said he could tell. Never-the-less it’s very good and doesn’t taste like a diet drink. The Milky way adds a touch of carmel. The taste of malty chocolate is present in both of them but we don’t think it is too thick or sweet but it is best as a treat rather than a thirst quencher.
The Starburst ones are okay but I don’t think they serve as a good treat or represent the Starburst flavor that well.
This company also makes a drink called Slim Slammers. The only flavor my wife and I have tried is Vanilla. It tastes very much like melted Bryers vanilla ice cream. We like it as much as the Milky Way and 3 Muskateers but the store keeps selling out of them.
You’ve got to try the Milky Way and 3 Muskateers…and the Slim Slammers if you can find them. They’re very, very good!!

June 13th, 2006 at 2:32 amI’ve got to say the starburst flavored drinks grew on me. The first time I tried one, I thought it was ok but nothing I’d go out of my way for or proably even get again. The gas station had them on sale buy one get one free so I got two more of them and somehow they got me hooked. Now I seek out these drinks and love them, weird but true.
October 31st, 2006 at 3:03 pmGood move on your part. Yoo-hoos are god. no lie.
