I vote for a night in. You get to pick out exactly what you want, that way your dinner is always perfect and I always pick a really good bottle of Cab. It works with dinner and is always good with the high end chocolate for dessert. No flowers, they are just a rip off if you buy them for Valentine's Day. Buy me flowers sometime when I am not expecting it - that is when they mean something. Are you getting all this honey?

RESPONSE: I got it, Sweetie :)

I'd rather have the good chocolate. Then again, my S.O. and I are currently in the 'starving college students' stage so good chocolate can cost less than a fancy dinner, and sharing the box together gives the same sentiments.

Good chocolate has aphrodesiac qualities. And I love chocolate. Yes, I'd rather be treated to dinner and a movie out, but chocolates (and flowers) are sweet, old-fashioned, and romantic.

Best of all are some of the chocolate-scented soaps and lotions you can sometimes find (more often this time of year)--a chocolate-scented massage is heavenly and romantic.

Okay, good point-- I wasn't thinking Godiva. I was picturing the cheesy heart-shaped box of chocolates you can get at the grocery store. Come to think of it, chocolate-covered strawberries would be HEAVENLY!

Hey! I can't click on more than one item!

I like getting candy, though my hubby gives me candy quite often (as you can imagine). I don't even need exclusive stuff, I'm happy (happiest) with a box of See's Nuts & Chews or maybe something that I've never had before. He recently picked up a set of three Dolphin chocolate bars "just because he saw them and thought I'd like them."

I honestly like kooky retro stuff, too. Someone can go into a drug store or grocer and pick out a nice assortment these days. It really is the thought that counts.

I don't think you can really generalize "what women want" as a gift from their lover (or prospective lover). We're individuals. Just like not every man is a football fan.

A night out is my #1 choice. With four kids that isn't always an option, however, so a box of GOOD chocolate is next on my list. Not that I ever get it, though. We are practial folk so my husband usually gets me yarn (knitting is one of my hobbies).

As much as I love candy, I'd WAY rather have a night out. Candy seems so... 4th grade. You know?

Unless you give it to me with a Garfield Valentine. If you make it LOOK like a 4th grader gift, I'm okay with candy on V-Day.

It's the pretending like it's a REALLY nice gift that turns me off.

RESPONSE: Ah - for candy/chocolate I meant really nice chocolates - Godiva or something - I guess I should have clarified.
