Mars has launched a new chocolate candy called CocoaVia that they say is actually good for you:
According to a number of recent scientific research studies, certain chocolates and cocoas may indeed play a role in a heart-healthy diet. Researchers believe that flavanols, found in plant-based foods like certain cocoas and chocolates, may have heart health benefits. Chocolate is made from cocoa beans, which grow on cocoa trees called Theobroma cacao. Since chocolate is a plant-based food, it contains many of the same nutrients as other plant-based foods, including flavanols. These flavanols can act as antioxidants, which scientists are investigating for their potential impact on cardiovascular health.
Full details can be found at the CocoaVia site. It seems this will be marketed in the health foods section of stores and not beside all the other candies. I’ve never bothered to try any of the “good-for-you” energy/health candy bars. If I want candy, I eat candy. If I want to be healthy I eat something other than candy. I guess I am not the target market for these things.

UPDATE: I just found out they also have a Cocoavia drink too. I might try that if I can find some – I like chocolate drinks like chcolate milk and YooHoo.
Nice coverage of this: the visual of the product adds a lot. I take a more funny approach on my blog.
You are rather modest in your self-assessment. Your statement that:
“If I want candy, I eat candy. If I want to be healthy I eat something other than candy.” may actually hit on something that many people think…If I want candy, I’m not that concerned about the health aspects. So attempts to “healthy up” chocolate may be misguided.
But I assume Mars, Inc. has done some research that says somebody wants this.

How is that “rather modest”?

I meant to say that your comment was followed by “Maybe I’m not the target market…”. But perhaps Mars would like you to be the target market, but may have missed the boat.
